Dear Members of the Scott M. Leaman Elementary School Community,

The purpose of this communication is threefold.  First, I would like this to serve as a letter of introduction as I am the newly appointed, inaugural Principal of Scott M. Leaman Elementary School.  It is with great pride, pleasure, and excitement that I accept the challenge of making Leaman Elementary School an exemplary school. I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than 17 years.  Prior to being named as the principal of Leaman Elementary School, I served as the principal of Creekside Oaks Elementary School and the vice principal of Twelve Bridges Middle School.  As a former teacher I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science, physical education and yearbook. I am excited and eager to bring my skills as an educational leader to this school and work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child's success.

Second, I want you to know that the teachers, staff, and I will diligently work to establish a legacy of success in relation to building strong relationships with parents, students and community partners.  Most importantly, our staff and I will work tirelessly to ensure that each child has the academic skills to do well in middle school, high school, and beyond.  Together, we will focus on using data driven instruction, providing consistent implementation of the curriculum in a rigorous manner, and a pathway that will ultimately increase the academic achievement of all of our students.

Third, the locomotive that will be driving our “instructional train” is called STEAM.  STEAM is an acronym for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics”. This acronym is used to describe a type of curriculum used in many schools throughout the United States, kindergarten through college. The idea behind STEAM is to make our students more competitive in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics by bringing up generations of students, often referred to as “STEMists,  who can excel in high-tech jobs”.

The staff and I are eager and excited to begin what promises to be the first of MANY great years to come.  I look forward to meeting each of you. People describe me as “user friendly and accessible”, so if you see me on campus, stop me and introduce yourself.  Here’s a piece of insider information . . . you can usually find me in front of the school each morning greeting the students as they arrive. Further, please feel free to call me at 916 645-5293 (until I’m on site)  or email me at rpenders@wpusd.org with any questions or thoughts you may have. I anticipate working with you as a team to help every student attain their individual goals and to have a successful school year!

Sincerely,

Reno Penders
The Very Proud Principal of Scott M. Leaman Elementary STEAM School
